Shaun Booker

Years in prison:
0.9
Year of crime:
1996
Year conviction was overturned:
2006

Shaun Booker was convicted of manslaughter of 57 year old Michael Marples. Booker maintained that he saw Marples lying on the ground and tried to help revive him, but the jury were persuaded that a blood splatter found on Booker’s clothes was caused by him punching Marples to the ground. In February 2006, at the request of the Crown, an appeal court quashed Booker’s conviction based on new evidence that it said “casts very great doubt on the correctness of the appellant having been the assailant.” However, the court refused to reveal what the evidence was, stating that it could not be dislosed without causing serious damage to the public interest.
