Malcolm Watkins
Year conviction was overturned:
2021
Malcom Watkins was convicted of theft in 2007 as one of a series of wrongful convictions of Post Office sub-postmasters. Watkins experienced difficulties with the Horizon accounting system, including shortfalls of £66,000 and £50,000 which he handled as the system instructed him to. The Post Office pursued him with charges of theft, to which he pled guilty and was sentenced to an 18 month suspended prison sentence and ordered to repay £50,000. His conviction was ultimately overturned in 2021 after new evidence arose that the shortfalls were due to a flaw in the Horizon system.
