John Bingham was convicted of various offences after his name was given in evidence by “supergrass” Joe Bennett. Bennett accused him of being an Ulster Volunteer Force commander and testified that he had seen him armed with a machine gun. On appeal, the credibility of Bennett’s evidence was severely undermined and the conviction was quashed.
