David Asbury

Years in prison:
3.5
Year of crime:
1997
Year conviction was overturned:
2002

David Asbury was convicted of the murder of Marion Ross, a 51 year old woman who was found dead at her home having sustained crushed ribs and having been stabbed in the eye and throat with scissors. Mr Asbury was convicted primarily on the basis of fingerprint evidence that was subsequently discredited when examined by independent experts. The Crown Court in Edinburgh concluded that given this new information, the key evidence could not be relied upon to sustain a conviction, and the conviction was quashed.
