Brian Buckle

Years in prison:
5.5
Year conviction was overturned:
2023

Mr Buckle was convicted of historical child sex offences, based largely on analysis of DNA samples.

His convictions were overturned when the DNA evidence was examined by a new forensics expert. He was found not guilty at a retrial where his defence team introduced new witnesses and fresh forensic evidence.

He has described the struggle to have his conviction overturned – he used savings and family loans to pay legal fees totalling £500,000. He has been refused compensation by the Ministry of Justice on the basis that he cannot demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that he did not commit the offences he was convicted of.
