Billy Pope was convicted of possession of a firearm and conspiracy to supply drugs after being found in a flat he was visiting with a shotgun and 15 kilos of canabis resin. The flat had been surrounded and was under observation. Police claimed that during interview Pope incriminated himself, stating that the flat was his and indicating he had known about the shotgun and the resin.Pope claimed that he had been set up. On appeal, evidence of serious police misconduct meant that the officers’ original evidence was tainted, and the conviction was therefore found to be unsafe.
