A spoke to us about their experience accepting a caution as a child. A explained that he accepted a caution when accused of a crime by the police because he did not want to go to court and so felt he had no other option. He noted that he didn’t fully understand the implications of accepting a caution.

“I think there probably wasn’t any other option but at the time I did not understand the effect it could have on my employment possibilities or the fact that I would be stuck giving my DNA forever.”
